Today we’re going to talk a little bit about Conan the Barbarian, in Conan: Savage Legends. Each Legend has an affinity associated with them that influences a number of different elements. Things like building their warband, what tactics they can add to their deck, and just overall general play style.
Through the many Conan adventures Robert E. Howard crafted, Conan has been many things: a thief, an outlaw, a mercenary, and even a pirate, but above all else he is a barbarian. Born the son of a Cimmerian blacksmith, Conan quickly proved his prowess as a respected warrior at a young age by taking part in the destruction of the Aquilonian fortress of Venarium. His heroic feats and countless battles proved to only strengthen his status as a Legendary hero.
Conan the Barbarian is a Might based Legend, as you can probably imagine. This means he excels at and has an enhanced focus on aggressive, close up, face to face combat. You shouldn’t find him sitting back trying to take out his enemies with arcane spells. If that is your preferred play style, there are far better Legends to chose from.
Pair Conan with Companions and Minions that can support his in your face style and you will be hard pressed to find a better Legend option then Conan. For those of you who love to stare into your enemy’s souls as you plunge your sword into their flesh, he is the Legend for you!
Today we’re going over the basics of building a warband for Conan: Savage Legends.
A warband is made up of 1 Legend, 2 Companions, and a group of Minions.
In this example, we are choosing Conan the Barbarian as our Legend to lead our warband. The traits listed on our Legend tell us which Companions we are allowed to add. In this case, Conan may select any two Companions that have at least one of the following traits: Aquilonia, Cimmeria, Warrior.
For this warband, we’re selecting Techotl as our first Companion, who shares the Warrior trait with Conan, and for our second Companion, we’re choosing Pallantides, who shares the Warrior and Aquilonia traits.
By choosing Companions of different Affinities, such as Techiotl and Pallantides, we are diversifying the Tactics we’ll be able to choose from later, giving us more options for battle.
We round out our warband by selecting a Minion group. Minion groups do not have traits which means we want to select a group we feel synergizes extremely well with Conan as our Legend and his two Companions. Because of this we’re selecting the Black Dragons.
As you can see, building a warband is that straightforward.
With our warband built, we move next to equipping our Legend and selecting the tactics we plan to use throughout the game, but this is a topic we’ll cover in our next Breakdown post.

Today we are very proud to announce an all-new chapter in the never-ending adventures of Robert E. Howard’s legendary Cimmerian: Conan: Savage Legends!
Conan: Savage Legends is a strategic, turn-based, skirmish style miniatures board game. Set within the vast mythos of the Conan universe and drawing inspiration from MOBA and combat game genres, Conan: Savage Legends allows players to construct unique and powerful combinations of barbaric warbands. Choose from a vast array of Legendary characters, special items, and deadly tactics, before filling out the rest of your warband with battle-hardened companions and a minion group.
Through gritted teeth and barbaric rage, warbands clash against each other on a variety of exotic battlefields. Choose your actions wisely or risk falling to the blade of your opponent. Which route is best to crush your enemies and see them driven before you? Will you take up the mantle of Crom’s chosen barbarian or do you prefer a more subtle, yet sinister approach in your machinations of conquest?
In addition to the head-to-head clash, Conan: Savage Legends will also feature a number of thematic solo/cooperative campaigns that pay homage to the great works of Robert E. Howard.
Conan: Savage Legends will be heading to Kickstarter later this year. Be sure to sign up for our newsletter and get all the latest Conan: Savage Legends news!
